Professor Caroline Gargett is an NHMRC Leadership Fellow and is the Theme Leader of Women’s Health in the Ritchie Centre at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research and adjunct Professor in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department, Monash University. As an international authority on endometrial stem/progenitor cells, she leads a large collaborative project investigating the role of endometriosis risk genes in endometrial stem/progenitor cells with Professor Montgomery (IMB, UQ). She also leads a large interdisciplinary project developing endometrial mescenchymal stem cells (MSC) and biomaterials as a novel cell-based bioengineered therapy to treat and prevent Pelvic Organ Prolapse.

Professor Gargett was awarded for her pioneering research in Endometriosis by the Endometriosis Foundation of America (2011), was awarded the Society for Reproductive Sciences President’s Achievement Award (2013), the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology Established Investigator Award (2005), the Society for Reproductive Biology - Research Centre for Reproductive Health Award for Excellence in Reproductive Biology Research (2011) and co-recipient of the US Magee Prize 2021.

She is the current Director of the National Stem Cell Foundation of Australia and Stem Cells Australia and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board/ Committee of Endometriosis Foundation of America, Fondation pour la Recherche sur l’Endometriose and Julia Argyrou Endometriosis Centre at Epworth.
